Howth

Today we took a trip out to the coastal town of Howth.  I heard it pronounced as Howth, Hooth, and Hothe.  Howth is a small peninsula north of Dublin.

We started our day by walking from Griffith College to Pearse Station.  In order to get there, we walked through Trinity College.  This was my first time on the campus, but since it isn't a far walk from Griffith I will probably be back there.

Right next to Trinity College is Pearse Station.  There is a line that goes directly up to Howth that we all got on.  The trains are very nice, clean, and run smoothly.  After about a 20 minute train ride, we got to Howth.  Our entire day was a hike through town and out to the peninsula by the coast.  All of the scenery was like nothing I've ever seen.  Our guides took us to the top of a hill where we could see the town behind us.  We hiked along a trail that was right next to a cliff.  The ground was already muddy and slippery which added to the challenge of the hike.  Fortunately it wasn't raining or else the trip could have gotten real ugly.  This part of the hike let us see out into the Irish Sea.  We hiked back into town and went to a market for lunch.  I had an Irish sausage sandwich for lunch that was delicious.

Finally we made it back to the train and walked back to Griffith.  It was a long day of walking who knows how many miles, or kilometers, but it was fun to get out of the city for a day and see more of the island.

This week a have a few orientation sessions before my classes start on the 19th.

Also, happy birthday to the Big Man, Clarence Clemons.
